As an exhibitor at every Los Angeles Pottery Show, Barbara
Willis bridges the gap between California pottery of the 1940's
and today.  Her designs are timeless.  The doyenne of California
pottery, she is shown here at the February 2006 show.  Barbara's
early works are in high demand and at the age of 90 this
thoroughly modern woman continues to produce pottery for
collectors.   The definitive book on Barbara, authored by Jack
Chipman will be available at the show for purchase and signing.

Ephraim Faience Art Pottery

When we decided a few months ago to include
contemporary pottery with an arts and crafts
influence in our show, we had no other choice in
mind other than Ephraim Faience.   They
consistently have provided affordable and finely
crafted pottery to collectors since 1996.   They are
now celebrating ten years of creating the finest in
contemporary arts and crafts style art pottery.  We
congratulate them!

We're happy to announce that the Ephraim Faience
Art Pottery will be making their 2nd appearance at
the February 7-8, 2009 Los Angeles Pottery Show!

Ephraim Faience art pottery is created by hand in
the arts and crafts style.   Distinctive shapes and
glazes highlight the beautiful collection.
Collectors everywhere are taking notice of the
quality, craftsmanship and vibrant depth of color in
each example.    We're very excited they chose to
participate in the 10th annual Los Angeles Pottery
Show at the Pasadena Convention Center!

FROM THE KILNS OF CALIFORNIA FAIENCE: THE CERAMIC ARTISTRY OF
                    HERMIONE PALMER

We were pleased to once again have Jimm Edgar and Bettie Dakotah host a part of
our "Private Collections" exhibit at the 2008 show.   Along with unusual examples of
the ceramic artistry of Hermione Palmer, they also had on display rare photos and
ephemera.

Hermione Palmer was the grand niece of United States President, James  Buchanan.
Born in San Francisco in 1905, her family moved to Berkeley in 1908.  She majored in
art at the University of California, Berkeley and drew cartoons for the Daily CAL
newspaper as well as the New York based, "College Humor".  In 1937 she was given
a show at the Paul Eider Gallery in San Francisco featuring pastels and her famous
ceramic heads.  The same year she began production of her ceramic heads with hair
and eyelashes made of copper aerial wire at the studios and kilns of California
Faience Pottery Company in Berkeley.

Gift and specialty shops all over the country sold the famous heads and in 1942 she
moved her operations to Glendale, CA .  Hermione opened her ceramics shop on busy
Los Feliz Boulevard in Glendale where she produced a line of hand sculptured
boudoir accessories which were featured in Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, and House and
Garden.   The exhibit was a success!  We're excited that Jimm and Bettie chose The
Los Angeles Pottery Show to debut their collection to the public for the first time!
We are pleased to announce that long time
collector and author Steven Beals , as part of
our "Private Collections" exhibit, will have an
entire case of beautiful "Padre" pottery. on
display at the February 9-10 show.  Don't miss
seeing this exciting line of pottery that was
made in Los Angeles from 1936 through 1943.
Steven has perhaps the largest collection of
Padre anywhere and it will be difficult to select
the "cream of the crop" for everyone to admire.
Steven is the co-author of "Fiesta, Harlequin &
Kitchen Kraft Dinnerware: The Homer Laughlin
Collector's Association Guide" published in
2000.
